All residents in Colorado have the constitutional right to register with the Colorado Medical Marijuana Registry if they suffer from a qualifying medical condition. Qualifying patients must apply for a Registry Identification Card also referred to as a marijuana card or marijuana license. To qualify for the registry patients must get a recommendation to use medical marijuana from a qualified Medical Doctor practicing in Colorado. Once a patient has received a doctor’s recommendation they must complete the one page state application and have it notarized. The notarized application, physician’s recommendation and a check for $90 must be submitted to the state within 60 days from the time of the physician’s signature to use medical cannabis.

The Colorado Department of Health and Environment is responsible for Medical Marijuana application processing. Wait times for medical marijuana cards can vary so patients must use copies of the application and physician signatures to buy medicine at dispensaries in the interim.
